Finland became independent in 1917 – one hundred years ago. Because of our long democratic tradition, we tend to respect freedom of speech and the laws passed by our parliament. This has made us one of the least corrupt countries in the world, ranking in number two, in fact. When it comes to press freedom we are number one. These are some of the factors that have made Finland the most stable country in the world.
As there are so few of us, about 5,5 million, we can’t afford to leave anyone behind. That’s why world-class health care and education are available for all of us. Finland is the most literate of all nations and our workforce one of the most educated in the world. Of Finns over the age of 25, 87 % have finished an upper secondary education and almost 42 % hold a higher education degree. This has helped us become the fifth most innovative country in the world.
Our unique relationship with nature means that sustainability comes naturally to us. Over 70 % of Finland is covered in forest and our archipelago is the biggest in the world. We have 188,000 lakes with water good enough to drink and the third cleanest air in the world. In many ways Finland is the greenest and cleanest country on earth and we aim to keep it that way.
All of this makes Finland a great place to live, visit or do business. Not only are we the most functional country in the world, we also have the best quality of life in the EU and we place 5th in the world happiness report. Concert and Congress Centre Tampere Hall is experiencing the biggest makeover in its 25-year history. The new event facility extension was opened in May 2016. Revamped restaurants and lobby point will be ready in Winter 2016 and Spring 2017 and the Moomin Museum, which will open in May 2017, will be the cherry on the top. Valued at around EUR 22 million the overall renovation of the Hall and its services serves to increase the already-strong appeal and development of the Tampere region.
Luxurious glass igloos by Santa's Hotel Santa Claus will be opened in December 2016 at the Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi. The intention is to build 30 new glass igloos with possible completion by autumn 2017. Glass igloos are intended for year-round use. The new glass-roofed, arctic view rooms offer an opportunity to experience Lapland's ever-changing nature while enjoying the comforts of a hotel room. It is possible to enjoy northern lights, midnight sun, autumn colors and polar night.
Two newly renovated Radisson BLU hotels are available in downtown Helsinki. Radisson BLU Seaside Hotel enjoys great harbor views. First part of the renovation is ready and rest will be finished by June 2017. Number of the rooms will be then 347. Radisson BLU Aleksanteri Hotel in Design District with 151 rooms offers to be your home away from home.
Seaside Glass Villas open at the beginning of December 2016. Beautiful and quiet villa area is located next to the SnowCastle and just couple of minutes away from the Kemi city centre. To begin with there will be 20 of these villas with small kitchen and bathroom. It is a cozy place to snuggle up and enjoy the nature's incredible light show – the Northern Lights. In Sea Lapland the nature presents its beautiful light show from early autumn until late spring.
Hotel Verso is privately owned boutique hotel which opened in June 2016. Hotel with excellent service and 128 rooms is located at the pedestrian zone at the centre of the city. All the activities and meeting facilities can be found nearby. City of Jyväskylä is situated in Lakeland area.
