The first Wintergolf in Crans-Montana will take place in February 2017. As part of the Wintergolf Cup, which passes through Megève and Val d’Isère, the 9 hole Jack Niklaus course will welcome golfers of all levels on a snow-covered course. Info

Symbolism was a late 19th-century movement which arose in dramatically changing times: industrial revolution, rural exodus, population growth, the development of socialism, the emergence of biology and the evolutionist theory, awareness of the ‘self’ and the role of conscience. It evolved as a reaction against materialism, positivism and realism in art. Although admittedly reactionary, it influenced the advent of Modernism and heralded movements such as Abstraction and Surrealism. Upholding a perception of reality infused with spirituality, Symbolist artists favoured the subtle expression of moods, imaginary worlds and dreams, and were naturally fascinated by the elusive, ever-changing nature of the liquid element with its infinite poetic variations and powerful mythological and symbolic imagery. Water is both surface and depth, purveyor of death or life-giving energy, opaque or transparent, crashing waves or total peaceful calm; it also expresses the strong polarization which inspired Symbolism, oscillating between the blackest pessimism and idealism, the quest for a new formal language or the return to pre-Renaissance roots. The exhibition aims to reveal all Symbolism’s different facets through the prism of water whose rich and varied repertoire was to inspire painters, sculptors, poets, musicians, cabinetmakers, glassmakers and ceramists. Part of the exhibition will travel and be shown at the Musée Félicien Rops, in Namur, Belgium. Info

Snow Island is a favourite family haunt in winter: snowtubing and a magic carpet for novice skiers and sledgers. There are also indoor and outdoor snack bars, which are great places to stop and enjoy the wonderful Alpine panorama. The European Ladies Ski Cup is considered as the anteroom for the FIS Alpine World Cup, the highest known alpine ski competition. This winter, Crans-Montana has the pleasure to welcome that famous cup on the Mont-Lachaux slope. Every year in February, the Nuit des Neiges is an unmissable rendez-vous on the Haut-Plateau. This charity evening has been raising funds for many organisations for 30 years, and has already distributed over 3.5 million francs. Info

From 25 to 26 February 2017, the world’s top female skiers will gather in Crans-Montana to test their skills in the Super-G and Alpine Combined disciplines on the challenging Mont Lachaux piste. This run has now established itself as a World Cup classic, and the ladies will return each year until 2020. Info and programme

20h00 at the Chapelle St-Christophe
After numerous tours throughout Europe, Japan, China, the United States, Canada and Australia, the Quatuor Debussy will be giving a concert at the Chapelle St-Christophe on Wednesday 15 February at 20h. This French quartet upholds a vision for open, living and creative « classical » music. Experienced in creating bridges between different artistic domains such as dance, theatre, contemporary music or circus, these musicians are guided by curiosity, surprise, renewal, discovery and sharing.
An eclectic programme which speaks volumes : Beethoven and Chostakovitch followed by Piazzolla and music from Brazilian films. Info
